Municipal Energy Planning (MEP)

Navya Technology has been working on the field of renewable energy sector for years supporting government vision for universal access to clean, affordable and reliable energy. It was the first company to introduce Home Biogas system in Nepal. Likewise, company has also been working on the survey and design of solar street light system in various places of Nepal, Solar water pumping system, Solar wind hybrid farm, Solar farm and MEP.

Municipal Energy Planning (MEP) is a sustainable and integrated planning process for accelerating the clean energy solutions for household, institution and production at municipal level. MEP is a key document that shows how the municipalities will address energy development. It aims on the identification of the most suitable on-grid or off-grid or mixed solutions by following the least cost model under a time horizon of 5 years. The government has encouraged the municipalities to develop an energy plan that addresses the supply, distribution and use of energy. Municipalities have been encouraging the local people on the use of renewable energy, efficient energy use and oil reduction. With global concern towards climate change and global warming, municipalities have been concentrating towards MEP.

WHY MEP?

The maximum percentage of source of energy used is a conventional source of energy, which have been contributing greatly to global warming, Green House Gas emission and climate change. The fossil fuels and nuclear energy are degrading day by day. Also, most of the people of our country resides in the rural areas where grid extension is costly. So, there requires need of alternate sources of energy. Nepal is endowed with high potential for renewable energy resources like hydro, solar, wind, biomass, etc., which is the most appropriate option for Nepal. Also, the renewable technologies are advancing so rapidly that renewable per unit energy cost been found to be cheaper that those non-renewable energy cost. The other benefits are as follows:

  • Socio-economic development of local level
  • Accessibility of clean and reliable cooking and lighting energy solutions
  • Promote and develop renewable energy projects such as mini/micro hydro, Photovoltaic Pumping System (PVPS), Institutional Solar Photovoltaic System (ISPS), Solar Home System (SHS), solar wind hybrid, solar mini grid, large biogas, Home Biogas, solar street light, solar water pumping, wind energy based water pumping, improved stoves etc.
  • Develop baseline to allocate adequate budget
  • Improve energy use efficiency
  • Identify potential sources of energy within municipalities and associated technologies based on climatic, geographical and socio-economic variations
  • Identify energy surplus or deficient
  • Identify existing energy status and consumption pattern, existing technologies and devices for end use, number of household using different technologies and demographic status.
